With Plasma 5.18 just around the corner, KDE is really starting to focus on Plasma 5.19

Plasma 5.18 to ten days

10 days. That is the time until KDE releases the next major version of its graphical environment. It will be Plasma 5.18, a longer supported LTS release that will come with many new features, many of them important. This is something that Nate Graham reminds us in his weekly article about what the KDE Community is working on, where he also tells us that they are focusing on correcting the bugs that they are finding in v5.19 of the graphical environment.

Well, that's what it says though. Between the changes mentioned this week, there is little of Plasma v5.19. In fact, this time he has not published an article as long as in past weeks and most of the articles related to the graphical environment will arrive within ten days. If you mention two new features, both of them prepared for v5.19. We tell you these and other changes they are working on below.

News that will arrive with Plasma 5.19

  • As part of the ongoing initiative "Make Systray Applet Pop-ups Look Better", they now have the first version of the new Audio Volume pop-up. In addition to looking better, it includes a new and more obvious global "Turn up the maximum volume" setting, a global mute mode, and a less visually intrusive way to set the default audio device.
  • The KInfoCenter app now looks radically better. Under the hood, you're actually now using System Preferences to show everything; the old app no longer exists! This fixes several visual bugs affecting the old app, such as inconsistent appearance of the tooltip and strange little interactive tree view headers that did nothing when clicked.
