Wunderlistux, the best Wunderlist client for linux (especially for Elementary OS)

wunderlistux

If we were to look for a defect that Linux-based operating systems would have, this defect would have to be incompatibility with much known software. The good thing about it is that practically everything is possible, either directly with an official program or with one that the community has created. wunderlistux is a good example of this, an unofficial client for the manager of task lists, notices, etc.

This Wunderlist client is presented as «an electron skin for Wunderlist made with love for Linux (especially for Elementary OS)«, Which means just that, that it is compatible with Linux-based operating systems, but that it will work and look better on Elementary OS, one of the Ubuntu-based systems with the best graphical environment that I know of. With this explained, getting this little application to work on Ubuntu is not too complicated but, since it depends on a .desktop file, doing it on Elementary OS is not that simple, although it is not complicated.

How to get Wunderlistux to work on Ubuntu

The method is the same on any Ubuntu-based operating system, including Elementary OS. We will do it by following these steps:

  1. We go to the official website of the project and download the file. We can do it from this link.
  2. As we have downloaded a compressed file, the second step is to unzip the downloaded file.
  3. Now we have a folder with all the application code. What we have to do to make it work is edit the Wunderlistux.desktop file, although the extension is not visible. It is the only file with the name of the app. To do this, we right click on the file and open it with a text editor. Inside we see that the following is written:
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Wunderlistux
Exec=/path/to/Wunderlistux-linux-x64/Wunderlistux
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Icon=/path/to/Wunderlistux-linux-x64/resources/app/images/wunderlist.png
  • From the previous text we have to change the 3rd and 5th lines and change / path / to / Wunderlistux-linux-x64 / Wunderlistux y /path/to/Wunderlistux-linux-x64/resources/app/images/wunderlist.png down the right path. For example, I who have done the test leaving the folder on my desktop have put, without the quotes, «/home/pablinux/Desktop/wunderlistux-master/wunderlistux.desktop»On the 3rd line and«/home/pablinux/Desktop/wunderlistux-master/images/wunderlist.png»On the 5th line.
  1. We save the file and exit the text editor.
  2. Now we right-click on the Wunderlistux.desktop file again, go to Properties / Permissions and check the «Allow this file to run as a program»Or whatever you put in the distribution you are using.
  3. The icon for the .dekstop file will change, which means that it can now run without problems. If this is not the case, you can move the file to ".local / share / applications", which will also add the icon to the start menu.

Have you already tried it? How about?

    Hi, Pablo.

    The first thing to thank that there are people like you spreading information about free software. I would just like to ask the editors of this blog and other similar ones, a little more information about the program itself. You describe a detailed installation process for this program, which I am very grateful for, but in general the program, its functionalities, advantages, etc. are hardly mentioned.

    A greeting.

    Good!
    Thanks for sharing the app. In the latest version an installation script was added to make life easier haha
    You can also download the AppImage that allows you to test the app and if you want it also allows you to install it
    By the way also in the latest version a configuration panel was added where you can select the theme and configure the layout of the window buttons.
    regards
