Canonical decided long ago that Ubuntu Touch had no future. Or, at the very least, they decided they shouldn't develop it themselves because it would hamper development of the desktop operating system. Upon being abandoned, Ubuntu Touch went on to be developed by UBports, who has also taken over what is now known as lomiri (Unity 8), but it is not only they who are working so that the touch version of Ubuntu continues to advance, as shown by the fact that they have managed to run the operating system in a Redmi Note 7.
The Redmi Note 7 is a phone from the Chinese brand Xiaomi that was launched for the first time at the end of February 2019, so it is barely a year old. Like the vast majority of smartphones, it uses Android operating system by default, but one developer has thought that it would look good to dress Ubuntu touch and that is exactly what it has done. The result can be seen in the following tweets where he has shared a video and photos with the result of his feat.

It will come ... when it's ready.
In the previous video we can see rather little: a phone that seems to be the aforementioned Redmi Note 7 moving through what seems to be the interface of the newly christened Lomiri. The phone seems to work fine, but we wouldn't be being fair if we didn't say that it hasn't shown us how it works in too much detail either; He has only shown us that yes, that it works, and he has done it in a simple video recorded without screenshots, the correct way to demonstrate this type of feat because the videos are more difficult to manipulate.
With a perfect scaling setting, #UbuntuTouch looks quite glorious on #RedmiNote7. pic.twitter.com/28nIODnnWZ

With perfect scaling settings, Ubuntu Touch looks quite glorious on the Redmi Note 7.
The developer who has achieved it is Danct12 and we know that you are working on it, but also that not ready yet. When it is, it will share its achievement with the user community and we will do the same by publishing the corresponding news. Would you like to install Ubuntu Touch on your Redmi Note 7?

We all know that money rules the world, I mean by this, that until there are applications for daily use, this OS will not advance among users. I wish there were changes in the shared monopoly of Android and ios, and it will leave room for other OS.
It can also be run on a xiaomi redmi 4x, the problems of applications such as whatsapp can run through Anbox. https://forums.ubports.com/topic/3682/xiaomi-redmi-4x-santoni.
I have a xiaomi not7 and I would like to have Ubuntu on my redmi.
Hello
I would also be delighted to have ubuntu on my phone
It would be excellent to be able to install ubuntu on any mobile I think that if they manage to make it compatible with most of the best-selling phones and users start asking for it, the app will come out, I don't use whatsaap, I would ask for telegram and each one would have to demand the app developers that make them compatible for ubuntu is a matter of demand greetings.-
I still want FirefoxOS to return, I had so much faith in it that it was even born dead
