Xubuntu 17.10

Xubuntu It is one of the alternative versions that Ubuntu has, where the main difference is the desktop environment, while in Ubuntu 17.10 it has the Gnome Shell desktop environment by default in Xubuntu we have the XFCE environment.

On the other hand, Xubuntu is designed to run on low-resource computerss on the system, Xubuntu also is characterized by using GTK + applications designed to use fewer resources, but we also have the possibility to install any Ubuntu application without any problem.

Requirements to install Xubuntu 17.10

Minimum: Processor with PAE compatibility, 512 MB of RAM, 6 GB of hard disk, DVD reader or USB port for installation.

Ideal: 700 MHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 10 GB of hard disk, DVD reader or USB port for installation.

  • If you are going to install from a virtual machine, you only know how to configure it and how to boot the ISO.
  • Know how to burn an ISO to a CD / DVD or USB
  • Know what hardware your computer has (type of keyboard map, video card, architecture of your processor, how much hard disk space you have)
  • Configure your BIOS to boot the CD / DVD or USB where you have
  • Feel like installing the distro
  • And above all patience a lot of patience

Xubuntu 17.10 installation step by step

The first step is to download the system ISO that we can do it from this link, where we only have to download the correct version for the architecture of our processor.

Prepare Installation Media

CD / DVD installation media

Windows: We can burn the ISO with Imgburn, UltraISO, Nero or any other program even without them in Windows 7 and later gives us the option to right click on the ISO.

Linux: They can use especially the one that comes with the graphical environments, among them are, Brasero, k3b, and Xfburn.

USB installation medium

Windows: They can use Universal USB Installer or LinuxLive USB Creator, both are easy to use.

Linux: The recommended option is to use the dd command:

dd bs = 4M if = / path / to / Xubuntu17.10.iso of = / dev / sdx && sync

Already having our environment prepared all you need to do is have the BIOS configured for the PC to boot from the drive configured installation.

When starting the system boot, a menu will immediately appear in this case we proceed to install it by pressing the Install Xubuntu button.

Xubuntu startup screen

Installation Process

It will proceed to load everything necessary to start the system, once this is done we will be inside the Xubuntu desktop, then we proceed to click on the icon "Install Xubuntu”, Doing this will open the installation wizard with which we will support the installation.

On the next screen we can see a series of options, the ones that interest us are the following:

  • erase the entire disk to install Xubuntu 17.10
  •  More options, it will allow us to manage our partitions, resize hard disk, delete partitions, etc. The recommended option if you don't want to lose information.

Xubuntu 17.10 disk options

Here it is important that you define what you want to do, the recommended option for newbies is the first, but you must take into account that all your files on the disk will be deleted, so I recommend that you inform yourself in the box with more options a bit of how to create partitions so that Xubuntu can be installed together with other systems.

Xubuntu 17.10

In the following options are the system settings among which they are, choose the country where we are, time zone, keyboard layout and finally assign a user to the system.

And it will begin to install.

Besides, it is not enough for you to just remove this one, you also grabbed the one from Gentoo, for you I will only have to put the steps in images and put a watermark on them so you don't keep stealing them.

Really create your own tutorials and stop robbing people
