For several days now, the releases of Ubuntu and all its official flavors have been announced and we have already talked about some of them here on the blog and now it's time to talk about "Xubuntu 22.10 Kinetic Kudu".

Thunar now has a recursive file search incorporated. It also includes a graphical shortcut editor and zoom levels per directory, plus the Thunar Archive Plugin now allows you to compress zip files (including odt, docx and others).

Of the other changes that stand out:

  • Xfce Application Finder now supports the PrefersNonDefaultGPU property, which correctly launches games and other applications on multi-GPU systems, while
  • Xfce Desktop will now ask for confirmation before desktop icons are rearranged. Added a new option to disable the "Delete" context menu item.
  • Xfce Notification Daemon introduces improved app icon and name matching and fixes notification position during slider animation.
  • Xfce Panel has added a new binary time mode and new middle click options for the task list plugin. It also improves the handling and display of the system tray and status notification applets.
  • Xfce PulseAudio introduces a new indicator for when any application is recording audio. Notifications now show when the microphone volume level is changed.
  • Xfce Screenshooter fixes window capture for HiDPI, allows you to view your screenshot in the file manager, and adds a back button to take a new screenshot.
  • Xfce Terminal improves scrolling, adds a new "Fill" background image style, and fixes the "unsafe paste" dialog (allowing you to actually paste).
