Looking for a good Twitter client for Ubuntu? Try Corebird, now easier to install

corebird

Core Bird 1.1

If you are an active user of Twitter, you don't like accessing the service microblogging from the browser and use Linux, you have it really bad. That is my case. As a Mac OS X user, I'm used to the great Tweetbot Twitter client that fills my every need, but when I'm with any Linux distribution, what I've found for years is nothing short of shame. Long ago i tried Corebird, but the installation was complicated and it did not work too well, although it pointed ways.

Today I found out that Corebird has received remake. This is Corebird 1.1 and there is no need to do anymore nothing complicated to install, although it is not yet available via repository. In any case, its installation is as simple as downloading the .deb file for our type of computer, double-clicking on it and waiting for our package installer to do all the work. It will automatically download the dependencies and Corebird will appear the section that corresponds to it (internet), something that did not happen when the installation was much more complicated.

Corebird, perhaps the best Twitter client for Ubuntu

Once installed, the Corebird image may not be the best in the world, but the functions allow us to access:

  • Timeline
  • Mentions
  • Favorites
  • Private messages
  • Subscriber lists
  • Filter
  • Search option

As soon as you start it will ask us for a PIN. We only have to request it, which will take us to the Twitter website (we enter name and password if we were not Logged in) and will provide us with a number that we will enter in the program. If it closes, don't worry. It has also happened to me and it happened to me in previous versions. That is the only bug I have come across so far.

What maybe I miss is the ability to add columns, something that I think was available in previous versions and now I am not able to find. In any case, I am very happy to be able to use Twitter again in Ubuntu properly. Below you have the download links for the .deb packages of the 32 and 64-bit versions.
