You can now have a multi-window dock thanks to Gnome's Dash to Dock

Dash to dock

Surely many of you use a dock on your desktop. I personally always use it and if not the distribution or the official Ubuntu flavor that I use does not have it, I install it and that's it. In this aspect I always use Plank, a fairly complete and light dock, but there are others that are being updated more quickly and that seem more attractive.

Such is the case of Gnome dash to dock. A dock that has recently been updated with great news for end users and for those who work with Ubuntu in addition to playing with it.

Dash to dock is a Gnome Shell extension that turns the Gnome dash into a dock. This is interesting because it takes advantage of a desktop resource to give us a dock, but as with Plank, every time we connect an auxiliary screen to the computer, the dock remains on one screen only.

I personally work with multiple screens and it's a bummer because I have to be looking at a screen when I want to run an application. Therefore Dash To Dock has been updated allowing using the dock on any screen, that is to say, that for each screen that we have we will have a fully functional dock.

If we use Dash to Dock we only have to update plugins for new effects to take place; once we have it updated, we have to mark the option "Show on all monitors" within the plugin configuration. If, on the contrary, we do not use it and want to test it, we only have to go to the Gnome Extensions and look for it to install it on our desktop. Specifically, it is version 59 that has this new function.

So it seems that the next version of Ubuntu, which will bring Gnome as the default desktop, will bring a quite functional dock. However Will it be the dock that we all use or will it still be King Plank?
