My joy in a well ... which will come out in seven months. One of the novelties that I wait with little patience is the implementation of ZFS as root on Ubuntu. And it is that I am a user who likes to have everything perfect, but who usually tries many things that can cause failures in my operating system, so, for my mania to have everything perfect, I reinstall the system more than I should.
One of the options that the ZFS allows us as root are the control points. This means that we can go back in time to a moment when we know that our entire team was as we would like. The point is that Canonical confirmed this support in August, but already at the end of September and has had to backtrack. Yes, ZFS as root will come to Eoan Ermine, but will do it in a basic way. The more advanced functions are not ready.
ZFS advanced features as root will arrive in Ubuntu 20.04
In the Ubuntu forum they are talking about it. They have wasted a lot of time trying to implement ZFS in Ubiquity (the Ubuntu installer), so they have backtracked and set the new April 2020 goal:
ZFS at Ubiquity - We spent a fair amount of time trying to implement the new design. FWe went there and took an alternative approach by adding an experimental option on the guided partition page. This will be revised for 20.04 with an additional dialog for advanced and experimental partition options.
Basically, what we can do from next month is create the partition with ZFS format, but we will not be able to take advantage of its best features. This will already be possible in Ubuntu 20.04, where surely they mention ZFS as root as one of the outstanding novelties of FAdjetivo FAnimal. Patience.
