Firefox 110 is available with WebGL performance improvements and more

Firefox web browser logo

Firefox is an open source web browser developed for different platforms, it is coordinated by Mozilla and the Mozilla Foundation.

Mozilla announced the release of the new version of Firefox 110 along with the Firefox ESR 102.8.0 update and in this new version Firefox will already support the import of data such as bookmarks, passwords and history from Vivaldi, Opera and Opera GX, among other things.

One of the novelties presented in this new version of Firefox 110 is that on Windows, third-party add-ons can now be prevented from loading in Firefox.

Third-party applications (such as antivirus software, archiving software, and other tools) can load add-ons in Firefox. Sometimes these apps load harmful plugins that cause Firefox crashes, degraded performance, or compatibility issues. You may not be aware that a malicious or unexpected add-on has been loaded and may be causing problems that appear to be coming from Firefox.

Another novelty that introduces Firefox 110, is importing bookmarks, history and passwords which is now compatible with more browsers. Now it is possible to import bookmarks, history and passwords not only from Edge, Chrome or Safari, but also from Opera, Opera GX and Vivaldi for anyone who wants to switch to Firefox.

In addition to this, it is also highlighted that GPU-accelerated Canvas2D is enabled by default on macOS and Linux. This version of Firefox allows overlay of decoded video by hardware with non-Intel GPUs in Windows 10/11, which improves video playback performance and video upscaling quality, it is worth mentioning that Mozilla also announces improved WebGL performance on Windows, MacOS and Linux.

Continuing with the topic of Linux, it is worth mentioning that Firefox should now correctly display links from GNOME Finder in an already open browser window, but in a new tab (until now it opened a new window). It was a bug that was fixed.

Several security gaps have also been closed in Firefox 110. For security reasons only, an update to Firefox 110 is strongly recommended for all users.

Firefox now better protects against spoofing in the address bar. Attempts are made to lure users to fake websites by using special characters that appear to be normal characters to the user.

Of the other changes that stand out from this new version:

  • The Firefox Colorways feature has been removed.
  • It was added some time ago and allowed to quickly change the color theme of the browser.
  • The plugin is still available as a plugin.
  • Firefox now supports named pages in CSS, allowing websites to perform page-by-page layout when printing and declaratively adding page breaks.
  • Also, Firefox now supports CSS container queries.
  • HTML input elements of type color now support the list attribute on Windows and Linux. However, this is not yet supported on macOS.
  • More innovations for developers can be read on MDN Web Docs.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install firefox

The last installation method that was added «Flatpak». To do this, they must have support for this type of package.
