The Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 wallpaper contest starts

ubuntu wallpaper contest

As is typical in Canonical and close to the launch of each new version of its operating system, in this case Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 (Yakkety Yak), begins a new edition of his wallpaper contest. The rules are quite simple and give great freedom to designs, so there are no excuses not to contribute our designs and, if you're lucky, see our work immortalized in the next Ubuntu system.

Of all the images that are received, only ten will be selected for the final release and will have to be licensed under Creative Commons agreement. It is a good opportunity to support your favorite system and show your creativity to the world with Canonical.

Created on Flickr a group specially dedicated for this event. The rules for accepting background images of upcoming Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) are simple:

  • The use of names or brands is not allowed commercial of any kind.
  • References to Ubuntu GNOME are not allowed, since they can be derived to other distributions of the system.
  • There can be no reference numbers to the versions of the theme itself. This is intended to provide continuity for other editions prior to 16.10 of the system.
  • You cannot use images that may be considered inappropriate, offensive, racist, defamatory, inciting hatred, or showing some kind of torture. Neither will those that seek to provoke hatred towards an individual or group of people, promote discrimination or hatred on grounds of race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age will be admitted. In the same way, there will be no place for religious, political or nationalistic images.
  • Images that are sexually explicit or that use provocative themes will not be accepted.
  • No themes are supported where they appear weapons or any type of violence.
  • No images can be used where it appears or is made reference to alcohol, tobacco or drugs in general.

Moreover, the requirements that the images sent to compete must comply with are:

  • Will be admitted a maximum of two designs per participant. The maximum dimensions of the images will be 2560 × 1440 px (better if they save a panoramic aspect of 16: 9). images with sizes smaller than those indicated will not be taken into account for the contest.
  • Will be used the formats PNG files for illustrations and JPGs for photographs.
  • All compositions must comply with the Creative Commons ShareAlike 4.0 license and, if not indicated otherwise, each and every one of its clauses will be considered as accepted.
  • If the design is based on another existing composition, it must be indicated as such.

Be quick the term ends next September 2.
