Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy Gorilla kicks off its development race

Ubuntu 20.10 begins its development

Canonical begins development of a new version of Ubuntu days after the release of the previous one. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa was released last Thursday, April 23, and the development of Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy Gorilla has already started. Lucasz Zemczak has been in charge of communicating it in a mail in which it gives few details, beyond a couple of links in which developers can read and discuss the development of what will be the version of Ubuntu that will arrive in October 2020.

If you are wondering if the first Daily Build is already available, the answer is no. They have not confirmed the date of the launch of the first test version of Groovy Gorilla, but the first date that is marked on the roadmap is the April 30, so we could have the first one available next Thursday. It is worth mentioning that what will be available at the beginning will be nothing more than a Focal Fossa with minimal changes that is not worth trying if you are not a developer.

Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy Gorilla is coming October 22

On the other hand, Martin Wimpress posted the release notes with all the news that will arrive with the gorilla ... but it is only an empty draft. The only thing that is confirmed is that it will be a normal cycle operating system, which means that it will be supported for 9 months until July 2021. For everything else, the draft has already prepared the points that will change, such as the kernel, Ubuntu desktop, security improvements or application updates, but everything is blank.

Another thing that is clear is the release date of Groovy Gorilla: the Thursday October 22. The beta will be available from October 1, at which time Groovy Gorilla will be at a mature point that will be worth trying.
