Ubuntu Sway 23.10 introduced support for the Raspberry Pi 5 in what could be the next official flavor

Ubuntu Sway 23.10

8 were the official flavors, 11 are and 14 could become. UbuntuDDE Remix has little chance because the releases arrive very late, and I'm sure Canonical is taking good note of this. I add Ubuntu Web to the account, although it seems that its developer, who is also behind Ubuntu Unity, has abandoned the project. But things are looking better with the Sway flavor, since during this weekend they delivered Ubuntu Sway 23.10.

In reality, the full and real name is Ubuntu Sway Remix 23.10, since the "last name" is used by those who intend to become official flavors but have not yet done so. Whatever its name, Ubuntu Sway 23.10 I arrive two and a half weeks later than the official versions, an acceptable period for something that is still "under construction" although somewhat longer than in the previous version. What you have below is the list with the most outstanding news.

Most notable new features of Ubuntu Sway 23.10

  • Linux 6.5.
  • Supported for 9 months, until July 2024.
  • Integrated sway-systemd, which allows running user daemons and applications as systemd services. Most default applications such as Waybar or poweralertd now run as systemd user services;
  • The EralyOOM daemon is replaced by systemd-oomd, which, thanks to sway-systemd, now correctly identifies the processes that consume the most resources;
  • the rofi-bluetooth script is replaced by the blutuith manager;
  • lxpolkit-gtk3 is replaced by mate-polkit;
  • Swayimg is replaced by IMV;
  • Small improvements to the Waybar panel;
  • Added support for Raspberry Pi 5;
  • Updated packages: sway-input-config 1.3.0, nwg-look 0.2.2, nwg-drawer 0.3.9, nwg-displays 0.3.7, nwg-bar 0.1.3, musikcube 3.0.

There's no mention of snap packs, so we assume you're still free of them. If Canonical or someone from the Ubuntu team contacts the developers of this project to make it an official flavor, they will probably force them to implement them, but that is another story.
