Ubuntu for TV is more than a dream

ubuntu for tv

The track of everything has been a presentation made at the last UbuCon 2016. Ubuntu for TV It has been a project that Canonical has flirted with on more than one occasion without actually materializing at any time. Until today. It seems that the idea that has never quite dissipated could come to fruition little by little and maybe we will receive it sooner than we think.

Ubuntu for TV has been a variant of this operating system that initially got an idea in January 2012. Since then, four years have passed in which no more has been said about this project until the previous Ubuntu Community Manager, Jono Bacon, confirmed that the project was not really dead, but temporarily isolated while successive distros were being developed.

Whatever has happened since then for the moment Ubuntu for TV is no more than vaporware. It does not exist yet. But that doesn't mean it never will. In fact and according to the changes that are happening in the Ubuntu ecosystem, could be one more piece of the great puzzle that will make up the great convergence of environments and television would be one of them.

Time has meant that the great news of Ubuntu for TV has dissipated throughout these years, so it is time for Canonical to convince us again and, even more, to attract the interest of a large manufacturer of these devices the ones to include your system. Knowing how we really know Ubuntu no more powerful televisions needed and what we will get will be much more fluid SmartTV systems.

We have indicated that there was a presentation behind all this news. Current Ubuntu Community Manager Michael Hall gave a presentation on UbuCon 2016 during the SCALE 14x event in Pasadena, California. The note to keep in mind came in the last sentence when Hall said that Ubuntu would make it easier for programmers to develop applications that work on both desktop and mobile phones, tablets and eventually, televisions.

The fact that Hall pronounced TVs as a development platform could be a clear reference to the Canonical project sooner or later to include televisions within its convergent environment. At the moment we can wait for new news.

I would like to know how I can make it play with an HDMI cable, because the only thing that appears on the SMART TV is the desktop but it does not play the movies Thank you
