Wayland
For those who still do not have the notion of what Wayland is, I can tell you that is a graphical server protocol which provides a method for window composition managers to communicate directly with video hardware and applications. Wayland allows to run X11 applications through an X server, optionally without root privileges, having compatibility with these.
Now we count with the news confirmed by Ubuntu developers, who We will have Wayland as the default graphical server in Ubuntu 17.10, being news that many may dislike, since the default server in Ubuntu is Xorg.
Ubuntu developers still had their doubts about whether or not to launch the new Ubuntu version with Wayland as the default graphical server, since Ubuntu team leader commented "Wayland is not ready yet", although it was always the plan. After several weeks and a lot of user testing, the decision was made: Ubuntu 17.10 will ship with Wayland as the default session.

Canonical's Didier Roche argues that the change will be a great opportunity for Ubuntu developers to "get a good set of feedback to be ready and make our final decision for our next LTS, 18.04."
Whereas the daily builds of Ubuntu 17.10 should make the pertinent changes to include Wayland in the default session.
Ubuntu 17.10 will still have Xorg
The Xorg session will still be included for NVIDIA usersSince this state-of-the-art display server technology still doesn't allow for smooth gaming, Ubuntu will still have an X session available, ready to go, just activate it with a click or two.
This news is a relief to most of those for whom Wayland currently does not function well enough or simply does not like to drive on a daily basis.
