Debian 10.2, the second maintenance release of Buster now available

Debian 10

Although this blog bases its name on Ubuntu, last July 7 was an important day for us. Debian 10 "Buster" was released that day, and we must not forget that Ubuntu is like an enhanced version of Debian, or as Linus Torvalds said, "What Ubuntu did so well was make Debian usable." Already in September, the project launched the first maintenance release of Buster, and a few hours ago have released Debian 10.2.

Debian 10.2 is the second maintenance update operating system codenamed "Buster". As such, it does not include any new features worth mentioning, but it does correct many bugs of all kinds listed in the release note that you can access from this link. On the other hand, a package has also been removed, one that many users will not like.

Debian 10.2 removes the package firefox-esr

Among the changes introduced in Debian 10.2, we have fixed a total of 49 security flaws. The rest of the changes are bug fixes and a somewhat surprising one, the package removal firefox-esr. Debian says it has been removed by «circumstances beyond our control»And that it is no longer supported«due to nodejs build dependency«.

Project Debian recalls that a "point" release like this is not a new version of Debian 10, but rather updates to some of the packages included in the version that was released in July. No installation required from scratch and existing users will receive updates in the usual way.

The new ISO images, which we remember are only for new installations, are available from this link. Debian is an important operating system and as such it offers versions in many graphical environments, among which we find Plasma, GNOME or XFCE.
