For those who still do not know ClipGrab I can tell you that, is a cross-platform open source software created to download videos de the most popular video websites such as, YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion or Metacafe. Initially written in PureBasic and with the possibility of downloading a video at a time, later it was rewritten in C ++ and Qt to improve the appearance and functionalities.
ClipGrab also offers us the possibility of converting them to other file formats such as MP3, MPEG4, OGG Theora or WMV. It has support to download videos in high definition. ClipGrab can also download videos from non-officially supported websites as it automatically detects supported URIs when they are copied to the clipboard.
How to install ClipGrab on Ubuntu 17.04
ClipGrab offers us the installation files from its official website, but also the repository exists to be able to install it in Ubuntu and its derivatives without complicating our lives. Therefore, if you use any other system you will have to download the source code and compile it. You can download it from here.
First we will have to open a terminal and add the repository to our system with:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:clipgrab-team/ppa
We refresh the system repositories and proceed to install the application, we do it with the following commands:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install clipgrab
At the end of the installation, we can proceed to verify looking for the application among those of our system and proceed to open the program.
How to download videos with ClipGrab?
To download a video, just use the application's search engine or copy the URL of the video that we want to download to the clipboard and in the application in the "Downloads" tab we put it and automatically we will be offered the option of power choose the format in which the video will be downloaded, as well as the quality of the file.
The option of being able to use ClipGrab is very good, because having to use an extension in the browser limits us to having to look for one that does work, since currently most that are on the network no longer work correctly or simply they redirect to strange pages.
Do you know any other tool that allows you to download videos? Feel free to share it with us.
Lifetime Jdownloader
It was always good, although from my needs it is not 100% useful to me but a very good Jdownloader program
After adding the repository and updating it throws me this:
«Leon @ Satellite-L745: ~ $ sudo apt-get install clipgrab
Reading package list ... Done
Creating dependency tree
Reading the status information ... Done
The clipgrab package is not available, but some other package references
to the. This may mean that the package is missing, obsolete, or only
available from some other source
E: The package "clipgrab" does not have a candidate for installation "
Good grief, that graphical interface gives me laziness. I prefer to use "youtube-dl".
It is another good option, although in my case it is useful to be able to search the videos directly from the application.
I am new to installing programs in Ubuntu, I have 16.04, what steps should I follow to install a program to download videos from you tube
