And we're all here. Amy has had the pleasure of announcing the second flavor of Ubuntu for education since they rose from the ashes of it. What has been available for a few hours is dubuntu 23.10, and its leader today celebrated the good reception that Edubuntu had after its return six months ago. Being a system for education, it is understood that the children will have something to say, and in their development they have received the help of the son of the leaders of Ubuntu Studio and Edubuntu (they are a couple, for those who do not know).
As happens in Ubutu Studio with Kubuntu, Edubuntu 23.10 is based on Ubuntu, on which all the packages that may be interesting in the world of teaching and learning are added. The list of new features is what you have below.
Most notable new features of Edubuntu 23.10
- Supported for 9 months, until July 2024.
- Linux 6.5.
- GNOME 45 and based on Ubuntu 23.10. See related article for more information.
- New applications:
- Startup Disk Creator: This will help users and administrators to easily create a USB drive from an .iso image of any flavor of Ubuntu.
- GNOME Videos: Video Player.
- GNOME Music: Music player.
- Backups: Backup utility.
- Basic256: Teaches students the BASIC programming language.
- Extension Manager: An easy way to add and manage GNOME Shell extensions.
- OpenBoard: A whiteboard application for teachers.
- Mnemosyne: A memory card application.
- Convertall: A powerful standalone unit converter
- Edubuntu Menu Administrator can now hide snaps.
- KDE/Qt applications now respect desktop light/dark settings. Right now they use only the blue accent color. It is one of the known problems and at the moment there is no planned solution.
- A minimal installation is being worked on, but it did not arrive for this version.
