Firefox 54 is now available and faster than ever

Mozilla Firefox

During this week Mozilla has released a new version of its web browser, Firefox 54. This new version continues with Mozilla's plans, being more of a development step than a different version itself. However this version has surprised many, at least in the field of speed and memory consumption.

Firefox 54 does not differ much from its previous version, in essence it activates the multithreaded mode which makes the browser faster. This multithreaded mode already existed in older versions of Mozilla Firefox but it was not activated by default.

Mozilla Firefox 54 is faster and less consumes thanks to multithreaded

The speed as well as the memory consumption have increased and decreased respectively. Being a more than interesting option to use in our Ubuntu (or in any other operating system). But confirmation of Mozilla Firefox 54 as default browser in Ubuntu is unclear. The multithreaded mode makes the web browser faster and less consuming but it also requires that certain plugins are not activated. At this point is where it conflicts with Ubuntu because the Canonical system uses a plugin that interferes with multithreading, so it seems like the problem is there.

A solution to this problem is leaving or leaving Ubufox, the complement that annoys. Another option is to change the default web browser, something that could be viable if we consider that Gnome has its own web browser and finally there is a solution to develop Ubufox so that there is no such problem, something almost unlikely since Canonical and Ubuntu are not for wasting many resources without any fruit.

In any case, this does not mean that Mozilla Firefox is not in our Ubuntu but that we will have a faster, more powerful browser that consumes fewer resources than current web browsers.
