Firefox 78 comes with the possibility of restoring several closed tabs and these other news

Firefox 78

So and as it was programmed, Mozilla has made official a few minutes ago the launch of Firefox 78. Personally, I think the days when we were talking about really important releases, or in part, are long gone, and that's because the fox company now releases a new version of its browser every less time, every four weeks or so. But this does not mean that they do not introduce useful changes, such as those mentioned in the news note included in this version.

Among the news, and we usually wait for the official launch to include everything Mozilla mentions, we have Firefox 78 too it is an ESR version, that is, a release with extended support that replaces Firefox 68 ESR. Among other things, this means that it will appear soon as an update on operating systems that use ESR versions of Mozilla, such as some based on Debian. Below you have the list of news that have arrived with Firefox 78.

What's new in Firefox 78

  • The Protection Dashboard includes consolidated reports on tracking protection, data breaches, and password management. New features allow you to:
    • Track how many violations you have resolved from the dashboard.
    • See if any of the saved passwords may have been exposed in a data breach.
  • To see the control panel, we can write about: protections in the address bar or select "Protection panel" from the main menu.
  • Added an Update to Uninstaller button.
  • With this release, the screen saver will no longer interrupt WebRTC calls in Firefox, improving conferencing and video calls in Firefox.
  • Implemented WebRender for Windows users with Intel GPUs, bringing improved graphics performance to an even larger audience.
  • Firefox 78 is also an Extended Support Release (ESR), where changes made over the course of the previous 10 releases will now be implemented for our ESR users. Some of the highlights are:
    • Kiosk mode.
    • Client certificates.
    • Service API and Push API are now enabled.
    • Block Autoplay function is enabled.
    • Picture-in-picture support.
    • View and manage web certificates in about: certificates.
  • Pocket Recommendations, featuring some of the best stories on the web, will now appear in Firefox's new tab for 100% of UK users.

Firefox 78 is now available on the stable channel from Mozilla, which means two things: Windows, macOS and Linux users who use their binary version can update from the same browser. For new installations, it can be downloaded from the official page, which you can access from this link. As we have explained, Linux users can download the binary version.

As for the rest of the channels, Firefox 79, with a function that the author of this article does not like, has reached the beta channel and Firefox 80 to the Nightly channel. Considering that 80 is a round number, Mozilla is expected to put some more meat on the spit, but at the time of this writing their news page is a broken link. In any case, soon we will all be able to enjoy the stable version of Firefox 78, including those who use the option of the official repositories of our Linux distribution.
