Three weeks after the previous version, has been available for a few hours Flatpack 1.6.2. This is a new installment of this utility for software deployment, package management and application virtualization for Linux desktop environments that has arrived with bug fixes, but not many. Of course, its developer, Alex Larsson advises all users to update to the new version to solve a regression.
The main problem they have fixed in Flatpak 1.6.2 is a regression in Flatpak + OSTree that caused that the installations of this type of packages were slow. If Larsson recommends updating, it is because the installation in versions prior to 1.6.2, those that contain the bug and that their developer has not specified, are really slow, a nuisance that must be eliminated as soon as possible.
Flatpak 1.6.2 fixes a regression with OSTree
The point is, there are recent versions of Flatpak that could lead to delta support being lost and impairing OSTree operations. The problem can be experienced in those versions when installing software from repositories like Flathub, practically the only official, reliable and worthwhile.
On the other hand, Flatpak 1.6.2, already available in GitHub, also includes regular updates such as documentation, translations, creation has been corrected against previous versions of Glibc and the command is no longer allowed to run flatpack run low sweat due to problem behavior.
For those who do not want to install the code, Larsson will upload the new version to its repository in the next few hours that we can add with this command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alexlarsson/flatpak
Along with the Snap, Flatpak packages are a new type of packages that include software and dependencies in the same package. But the truth is that Flatpak are more popular and are updated much earlier than Snap (ask GIMP Snap ...). So any update that improves the software is welcome.
