about frogr

In the next article we are going to take a look at Frogr. This is an application for managing images and videos with our Flickr account, which is also free and open source, and is available for Gnu/Linux. With this application, users will be able to manage the content of our accounts and upload images and videos.

It will also give us the possibility to add titles to the images, descriptions, labels and manage groups, establish the visibility of the images, the type of content, the level of security, licenses and geographic location information. This client also supports multiple Flickr accounts and HTTP proxy servers. Frogr is written in the C language, and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.

Frogr is a client application intended to use the user's account on Flickr. This will allow us to perform some of the basic tasks such as uploading a photo and editing its details. The program's interface is simple and direct, so using it shouldn't be a problem.

Install Frogr on Ubuntu

The Frogr Flickr app is available as a Flatpak from and Flathub and in the default Ubuntu repositories. It still has to be said that the version available from the Ubuntu repositories is 1.6, while the one published on Flathub today is 1.7.

With APT

If you want to install this application using APT, you just have to open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run the following commands to install Frogr:

install frogr apt

sudo apt update; sudo apt install frogr

Once the application is installed, we can look for the launcher in our team, or we can also use the command in the terminal:

frogr launcher

frogr

When we start the program, it will be necessary to link it to our Flirck account. The web browser will open and we will have to authorize the application.

link app to flickr account

After will show us a number that we will have to enter in the window that opens in the program interface.

uninstall

For remove this program, all you have to do is open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and launch the commands in it:

uninstall Frogr APT

sudo apt remove frogr; sudo apt autoremove

Via Flatpak

The other option to install Frogr is through its corresponding flatpak package. To use this installation option, we must first have Flatpak and Flathub installed on our system. If you use Ubuntu 20.04 and do not yet have this technology enabled on your computer, you can continue The Guide that a colleague wrote on this blog a while ago.

When you can install this type of packages, it will only be necessary to open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and in it run the install command:

install frogr flatpack

flatpak install flathub org.gnome.frogr

At the end of the installation, we can open frogr by searching in launcher on our system, or using the following command:

flatpak run org.gnome.frogr

uninstall

If you would like to uninstall the Flatpak package of this program, you just need to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and run in it:

uninstall flatpak package

sudo flatpak uninstall org.gnome.frogr

Although Frogr doesn't offer a lot of features, it does what it promises, which is to edit image details and upload them to Flickr. This is intended to be a GNOME application to remotely manage a Flickr account from the desktop. It can find out more about this program on your web page or GitLab repository of the project.
