We try to defend free and open source software (FOSS) against patent trolls. Please help.
In yesterday's post, GNOME says it intends to:
First: a motion to dismiss the case outright. We do not believe that it is a valid patent or that the software can or should be patented in this way. We want to make sure this patent is not used against anyone else, ever.
Second: our response to the claim. We don't think there is a case that GNOME should respond to. We want to show that the use of Shotwell, and free software in general, is not affected by this patent.
Third: our counterclaim. We want to make sure this doesn't end when Rothschild realizes that we are going to fight this.
And it is that this patent includes points as absurd as that Shotwell is capable of sharing images without cables, so that practically all software of this type would violate that "patent".
