GNOME debuts new list view in Nautilus, among the news this week

List View in GNOME Nautilus

New weekend, semi-old customs. One more time, GNOME published an article on Friday with the news that has already arrived or is about to arrive on your desk. As the last week, in this one too they have spoken to us of news in applications, although the list of renewed apps is not as long as the one on the 17th. But one that we all use when we are in GNOME is mentioned: Nautilus, although in the systems that use this desktop it appears simply as «Files» .

“Files” is going to include a new view in the form of a list, as seen in the header screenshot. Personally, it is a way of displaying files that I have never used, but if an option does not arrive with problems, it is better that it is not missing. The rest of the news that they mentioned yesterday is what you have in the following list.

This week in GNOME

  • The Calendar app now has a pincer gesture for its weekly view. Works on screens and touchpads, and also by scrolling while holding down the key Ctrl. Furthermore, events will now be displayed in better colors.
  • Pika Backup 0.4.1 has come mostly to fix an external problem with scheduled backups and various translations. The Flatpak version has also been improved.
  • Login Manager Settings 0.6 has arrived fixing several problems, many of them in Fedora. On Ubuntu, some settings were not applied, and this has also been fixed along with other minor bugs. They've also introduced new features, such as command-line options for verbose or printing the app version, and received a new page on GitHub Pages that shows up with a link to the App Store.
  • Lock Screen Message, or the lock screen message in Spanish, now supports GNOME 42 and libadwaita, in addition to allowing longer messages (up to 480 characters).
  • Shell Configurator v5 includes:
    • Added support for GNOME 41 and 42 (with libadwaita).
    • Preferences look rewritten and redesigned.
    • New extension settings and presets search function.
    • Added suggested extensions section.
    • More settings have been added.
    • Supports more than 10 languages.
    • Configuration module system.
    • Error correction

And that's been it for this week at GNOME.
