GNOME introduces Black Box, a new terminal app that uses GTK4

GNOME's BlackBox

Like every weekend, GNOME yesterday published an article about the news that has arrived at your desk. Is week 51 It has not come with many new features, but at least they have presented a new application. It's about Black Box, black box in Spanish, and it's a terminal emulator application that hasn't even entered the GNOME Circle yet; they mention it as a third party project.

Lately, GNOME is publishing articles with a low but important number of new features. Seven days ago they told us about Epiphany, the project's official browser that will support extensions after the summer. The Black box Featured this week is a new addition, one that has a design that sits perfectly on the desktop.

This week in GNOME

In total, this week they have talked about four points:

  • libadwaita now has AdwAboutWindow, ie an "About" window with related information.
  • Black Box has come up with:
    • Customizable tabs.
    • A header that can be turned on or off.
    • Floating window controls.
    • Full screen support.
    • Full window themes compatible with Tilix.
    • Tabs in the header bar.
    • Written in Vala and built on top of GTK4, libadwaita and VTE.
  • New version of Workbench:
    • Added an icon browser to find the right icons for your prototypes.
    • Added a library of demo platform tools to learn about/from GTK Inspector, Adwaita Demo, GTK Demo and GTK Widget Factory.
    • Adopted the de facto standard light/dark style switcher.
    • Replaced confirmation dialogs with toasts and undo.
    • Preview now supports updates on root objects.
    • Support for linking signal handlers from the UI.
    • Added APIs to allow the use of templates from Code.
    • Added Center/Fill preview modes for templates.
  • To Do has been renamed Endeavour.

And that's been it for this week at GNOME.

Thanks for the news, hopefully one day they can lower or reduce the size of the entire environment, it looks very wide or thick and therefore I must use slim themes or those that are less wide or thick.
