New icons in GNOME 3.32

GNOME 3.32 is now available. This version includes new features, improvements and image, so we can say that it is a major release. Among the new features we have a new image that covers both icons and other parts of the user interface theme. As it cannot be otherwise, GNOME v3.32 also includes patches that will improve the general performance and new versions of the applications.

Considering that it is the graphical environment used by the standard version of Ubuntu, we can assure you that it is relevant news. We remember that the main operating system among those developed or covered by Canonical returned to GNOME 3.x with the release of Ubuntu 18.10, something that was expected months before but did not arrive in time. From the looks of it, GNOME 3.32 is coming to Disco Dingo, which is more than likely considering that the first Ubuntu 19.04 beta has yet to be released.

What's New in GNOME 3.32

  • Fractional scaling: GNOME 3.32 is the first version to support fractional scaling, which will make everything appear as it should regardless of the monitor we use it on. At the moment it is in testing and only works in Wayland sessions.
  • Control over application permissions: there is a new option in Preferences / Applications where we can indicate what permissions we give to each one, among which we will have notifications, sounds, searches, etc.
  • New icons: the icons have been updated as you can see in the header image of this post.
  • Improved Adwaita theme- The default theme has been updated and now has a flatter image, which we could say is more modern. This is especially noticeable in the upper bars and buttons.
  • Improved performance- This is always important and GNOME 3.32 offers better performance than previous versions.
  • Greater control over Night Light: Now we can adjust the color of the Night Light temperature. It seems to me something important, since the one in the previous version seemed too "red" to me.
  • The Application menus have been removed mostly
  • On-screen Emoji keyboard: from this version GNOME becomes compatible with Emoji. I do not mean to see them, but to use them without having to copy them, as I do at the time of a web.
  • Round avatars- Avatars wherever there are any will be round.
  • Ubuntu software: searches will be faster and the management of applications that are available from various sources, such as VLC or Firefox, which are in both APT repositories and snap packages, will be improved.
  • Google Drive will mount faster.

Ubuntu 18.10 includes GNOME 3.30 and most likely Ubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo includes version 3.32. Considering this is the first version of a big release, I would personally wait for a future update or April 18 to install it. Feel like trying GNOME 3.32?
