GNOME welcomes Amberol and Phosh 0.20.0 released its first beta this week

Amberon joins GNOME Circle

Reading Article de this week in GNOME, there is something that has surprised me a little, but only a little. Among the novelties there is one that they have always talked about, but if they had paid less attention today it would not be surprising either. And it is that GNOME is preparing its own desktop/mobile operating system, so the fact that they continue to talk about Phosh as if nothing has happened or will happen in the future, well, it has caught my attention.

It's clear that Phosh is an important part of GNOME for mobile, but it's a third-party thing, from Purism, which will be in direct competition with GNOME Shell for mobile, which is said to arrive after the summer, coinciding with v43 of the desktop. We'll see how they deal with it in the future, but one of the highlights this week is that they've launched the first beta of Phosh 0.20.0.

This week in GNOME

  • GLib has introduced the GListStore:n-items property to make it easier to bind UI items to if a listgroup is empty.
  • The –uninstall command has been added to GNOME Software to allow you to start the application uninstall process from the command line. Also, this should make it easier to integrate the store with other things.
  • Amberol has joined the GNOME Circle.
  • Authenticator 4.1.6 has arrived with support for restoring Google authentication, GTK Inspector has been disabled on stable releases, and QR code details for accounts have been redesigned.
  • A first version labeled blueprint-compiler 0.2.0. It is recommended to use this instead of the main branch version to avoid problems.
  • Workbench has released a new version with:
    • Added Blueprint markup syntax for the UI.
    • Added the Vala programming language to the code.
    • Support for template and signal handler previews.
    • All icons from the Icon Development Kit have been included.
    • Improved the design of the application.
    • The sample libraries have been distributed under CC0-1.0.
    • System preferences for color scheme are now respected.
    • Added light/dark color schemes suitable for the console.
    • Fixed bug when importing files.
  • Phoc 0.20.0 and Phosh 0.20.0, the second in beta, have come out adding the swipe gesture from the top and bottom bars, and quick settings have been redesigned.
  • Furtherance 1.5.0 is here and now has a repeat task button, you can export to CSV, the countdown is centered when there are no saved tasks, and local date formats have been added.

And that's been it for this week at GNOME.
