Google acquired CloudSimple, a provider of secure environments

Some days ago Google announced the acquisition of CloudSimple, a provider of safe environments dedicated to running VMware workloads in the cloud. This is based on a partnership between the two companies announced earlier this year.or to help migrate loads VMware job to the Google Cloud VMware solution CloudSimple while creating new VMware workloads if necessary.

CloudSimple offers a solution that brings together software-defined data center technologies VMware (SDCC) such as vSphere, NSX, and vSAN and implements them on a platform managed by CloudSimple, specifically for GCP. Enterprises can migrate VMware workloads to a VMware SDDC running on Google Cloud to take advantage of its services, including artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities.

"We look forward to continuing our partnership with Google Cloud on its acquisition of CloudSimple, a verified VMware Cloud partner," said Ajay Patel, vice president and head of the software unit, in a statement for cloud providers at VMware.

“Our partnership with Google Cloud enables our joint customers to run VMware workloads on VMware Cloud Foundation on Google Cloud Platform.

With VMware on Google CloudPlatform, customers can take advantage of the familiarity of the tools and VMware training and protect your investments while implementing your strategies in the cloud.

rich sanzi, vice president of engineering for Google Cloud, explains on the blog that

"Many companies are using VMware in their on-premises environments to run a wide variety of workloads: business applications like ERP, CRM, basics like Oracle and SQL Server, development and test environments."

And it adds:

"With CloudSimple, our customers can migrate their workloads from the on-premises VMware environment directly to Google Cloud, while creating other VMware workloads if necessary."

In the cloud hybridization strategy, Google Cloud can also count on Anthos, presented last April and based on Kubernetes.

The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. CloudSimple was created in 2016 by its CEO, Guru Pangal, behind StorSimple, a hybrid cloud storage solution purchased by Microsoft in 2012.

The cloud represents an opportunity growth for Google. According to the research firm Gartner, the market share of Google Cloud Platform is less than Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, but all three platforms are experiencing absolute growth.

In July, Google announced that its cloud drive, including the G Suite enterprise productivity software portfolio, had an annual income of $ 8 billion, double the production rate announced in early 2018.

The company hired Thomas Kurian, Oracle's Oracle executive, to replace former VMware executive Diane Greene as head of its cloud group last year.

Many large companies are taking advantage of their data centers with VMware tools. In recent years, VMware has made its systems available through the cloud provider's infrastructure to facilitate cloud adoption. In July, Google announced a partnership with CloudSimple to provide customers with better VMware support.

The deal follows the purchases of data integration company Alooma, storage company Elastifile and cloud migration company Velostrata. Kurian's biggest deal to date has been the $ 2.6 billion acquisition of private data analyst Looker, who, like CloudSimple, was a pre-transaction partner.

However, the Looker affair has not yet been finalized and the antitrust division of the US Department of Justice has asked the two companies to consult in the context of a review, according to a report published in the US press last month. last.

The CloudSimple solution also works for Microsoft Azure. The latter had even invested in the startup at its start in 2016. With the purchase, the question of the sustainability of this offering arises and has yet to get a clear response from Google.
