Google introduced some changes for Android, change of name, logo and for Android Studio

Android

In a blog post Google released the official announcement of the completion of the already known y popular practice of naming Android platform releases with the names of sweets and desserts in alphabetical order and the transition to conventional digital numbering. The scheme used above was borrowed from the practice of naming the internal versions used by Google engineers, but it caused a lot of confusion among users and external developers.

Therefore, the current version of Android Q is now officially called Android 10 and the next version will be initially promoted as Android 10.1 or Android 11.

In your post Google explained the following:

As we continue to develop Android for all members of the community, our brand needs to be as inclusive and accessible as possible, and we believe we can do better in a number of ways.

First, we change the way we name our versions. Our engineering team has always used internal code names for each version, based on tasty treats or desserts, in alphabetical order.

As a global operating system, it is important that these names are clear and accessible to everyone in the world. Therefore, this next version of Android will simply use the version number and will be named Android 10. We believe this change helps make version names simpler and more intuitive for our global community.

And while many “Q” desserts have been tempting, we think with 10 and 2.5 billion active devices, it was time to make that change.

Google's announcement also points to surpassing another milestone in popularity: Android is now used on more than 2.500 billion active devices.

At the same time, Google also took the opportunity to present a new updated project logo, in which instead of the complete image of the robot, only its head is used and the text is displayed in a different font and in black instead of green.

The logo design is inspired by the most recognizable non-human member of the community, the Android robot. The robot belongs to everyone in the community and has long been a symbol of fun and curiosity at the heart of Android. Now, it has a special place in our logo.

We also changed the logo from green to black. It's a small change, but we found the green to be difficult to read, especially for the visually impaired.

Other changes related to the project Android iThey include the release of the Android Studio 3.5 integrated development environment, which is based on the source code of the IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition product.

The key innovation of the new version is the implementation of the Marble project, which changes the development vector from increasing functionality to improving workflow quality, increasing stability, and enhancing existing capabilities.

During the preparation of the new version, fixed over 600 bugs, 50 memory leaks, and 20 issues leading to freezes and work was done to increase compilation speed and increase editor responsiveness when entering XML markup and Kotlin code.

The organization of the application startup process developed on the device has been completely redesigned: Instead of the "Instant Run" mode, the "Apply Changes" function is introduced, which instead of changing the APK package uses a separate runtime to redefine classes on the fly, which makes the application startup process be much more comfortable in the process of making code changes.

The Android Studio project is being developed as part of an open development model and is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license. The binary packages are ready for Linux, macOS, and Windows. Support is provided for all current versions of the Android and Google Play services.
