How to change the browser of my Ubuntu (explanation for newbies)

Change Browser in Ubuntu (for newbies)

Let's put ourselves in the situation: you just decided to abandon Windows to switch to Ubuntu. You find yourself with an environment that you do not know and an operating system that uses Firefox as the default browser, when what you want is to use Chrome, Opera or any other browser. The problem with being a switcher, let's change to the system we change, is that everything is elsewhere. So how do I change the default browser in Ubuntu?

If, for example, we want to use Chrome instead of Firefox, it is more than likely that we want Chrome to open for us every time we click on a link, do not? To install it, the first thing we will do is go to its official website, we will download it, install it and then use it. If we want to use it by default, as soon as we open it, it will ask us if we want it to be our default browser or not. If we are clear about it, we just have to say yes. But, what if at first we were not clear about it, we said no and now we want to change it? Well, we will have to do it from the System Configuration.

How to configure a browser to open by default when clicking on the links

The process is very simple but, like everything in life, you have to know the way. We will do it as follows:

  1. In the sidebar, we click System settings. If for whatever reason we do not have it there, either because we have told you not to keep it in the launcher or for another reason, all we have to do is press the Windows key, search for "system configuration" (it is not need to type everything) and click on its icon when it appears on the screen.

Open System Settings

  1. Once open, we click on Details.

System settings

  1. In the new window you will see that the Default applications. Here we just have to display the "Web" menu and choose the browser we prefer. Easy right?

As you can see, there are many things in Ubuntu that are not more difficult than in any other system. If I'm honest, I have to admit that my "Details" doesn't seem like the best section to put this option in, but once we know it, we won't have any problem finding it.

    Another way:
You can also click on the "start button", click on "About this computer" and then the "tab" of default applications.
