Keep in mind that this is the best way to update to the new version of Canonical, but you should also know that during these first days, the update process may take a little longer than necessary, due to download server saturations.

To me in particular it cost me a whopping almost five hours of update, and all this due to the extreme slowness in downloading the files necessary for the installation.

Well let's start with what's important and start with this one guide for direct upgrade from the terminal.

Hello, I updated Ubuntu to its latest version (12.10) but in the installation process something failed and could not install several files and now when starting the system it throws many error messages, for example:
(«Impossible to obtain http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/quantal/Release  Could not find expected entry "independent / source / Sources" in Release file (wrong entry in sources.list or malformed file)
I don't know what to do to correct the problem, I would appreciate any help in this regard, thank you.

Hello, I updated without major problems, but I had several repositories added and now they appear deactivated and there is no way to activate them graphically, from the repositories editor, no matter how much I give it, it ignores me

    1.    Francisco Ruiz said

Add them again from the terminal with the command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: + the repository

    1.    Francisco Ruiz said

No, nothing is lost, it is an update, not a fresh installation.

I have a problem with the Wi-Fi driver which after trying to repair it, it doesn't even appear anymore ... I want to know if doing the update from the system could correct this problem, or do I have to download the .iso file and do it manually?

    1.    Francisco Ruiz said

Maybe yes, connect via cable and run the update, surely the new drivers for your device have been included, otherwise you won't lose much, right?

Hey, I have a problem, when installing update 12.10 I had no more problems, during installation the system warns that the update will deactivate the quantal update repositories, which is the following:

    http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ppa/ quantal ubuntu

When I go to the origins of the software and go to the "Other Software" tab, these repositories appear in the list but before they have a legend in parentheses that says "Disabled in the Quantal update" and it is unchecked in the list, when I want to reactivate them, it simply ignores the order and now I want to update the system, it tells me that there are errors because the repositories are not activated

    How can I reactivate them?

Many repositories are classified for Precise and others for Quantal, so having made the version change they have been deactivated, it would probably be convenient for you to delete the Precise repositories and look for the Quantal ones, such may be the case of Cairo Dock, And PPA manager (the Y ppa is advisable to have visual control or you can do it from the terminal). It is also not very advisable to activate them because the version differences and if they use a different Kernel may give you problems. In itself 12.10 has personally given me problems. There are pages like webupd8 and noobslab where it is easy to find the repositories. Another source is on twitter with a user named Ubuntips. I wish the information is useful to you. Luck
