How to install the latest version of the Arc GTK theme on Ubuntu 16.04

Arc GTK theme

Although I have to admit that I have used the standard version again (it bores me to always use the same one), I also have to admit that I have never finished liking the Ubuntu image. This is something that has happened to me for more than 10 years and is the reason why sometimes I install Kubuntu or Elementary OS, in addition to the MATE that has given me so much joy. But the standard version of Ubuntu is the one that gives me the least bugs, so a good idea would be install Arc GTK theme on Ubuntu 16.04.

The latest version has been released this week under the numbering v20150506 and includes a few changes. The first has been improve the style of GTK2, we expected no less from a new version of a song like this. On the other hand, Unity window decorations have been improved, it no longer hides switch trough in the GNOME highlight menu, and small bug fixes have been included. If you want to install Arc GTK v20150506 on Ubuntu 16.04 you just have to keep reading.

Install Arc GTK v20150506 on Ubuntu 16.04

Installing this theme in Ubuntu is very simple and can be done in different ways. For me the best way to install any package on an Ubuntu based distribution is to do it from Ubuntu Software or using the sudo command apt install "package" if we know his name. If it's not available in the official repositories, my second favorite option is install a .deb package and this option is available to install the Arc GTK theme. You can download it from the following link:

Download

If you use an older version of Ubuntu, you can download the following .deb packages:

For x-Ubuntu 15.10arc-theme_1465131682.3095952_all.deb

For x-Ubuntu 15.04arc-theme_1465131682.3095952_all.deb

Installing the Arc GTK repository

On the other hand, it can also be installed by adding the repository, which needs more steps, but we can always update the package like we update any other software in Ubuntu. To install the Arc GTK repository, we open a terminal and type the following:

sudo sh -c "echo 'deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Horst3180/xUbuntu_16.04/ /' >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/arc-theme.list"

And to install it, we will write:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install arc-theme

Have you already tried it? What do you think?

    Why the preference of a .deb over the option of adding a repository? With the repo it updates itself, with the .deb not, right? Or is it due to mistrust of other people's repositories?
