Almost any KDE user knows the project schedule, or at least the deadlines they manage. And if not, here I am to explain them. As for their applications, they release a major version in April, another in August and another in December, and the rest of the months they release point updates to correct bugs. That's it what they have done today with the launch of KDEGear 21.12.3, what is the latest maintenance update KDE App Set December 2021.
No new features are included in KDE Gear 21.12.3, unless those that are related to minor cosmetic tweaks are counted as such. They've fixed the bugs they've been finding over the past few weeks, and as usual, Kdenlive has gotten quite a bit of attention. Here is a short list with some of the bugs that have been corrected on KDE Gear 21.12.3.
Some new features in KDE Gear 21.12.3
- Using Ark to extract Zip files with empty folders no longer causes those folders to have "last accessed" dates set to sometime in the future.
- Ark can now successfully create multipart 7zip archives, each of which is less than 1Mb.
- When using Kate's function to store and restore unsaved changes to files opened when closing the application, those changes are now actually saved as expected instead of being silently destroyed if the application is exited using the "Exit" action. » or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Q instead of clicking the close button of the window.
- Dolphin no longer crashes when a media archive job that was started from one of Dolphin's context menu "Compress" items is canceled,
- When browsing an FTP server in Dolphin, the file opener re-opens in the correct application instead of the web browser.
KDE Gear 21.12.3 has been officially announced. The earliest users to install the latest December 2021 KDE App Suite point update will be KDE neon. Very soon the new packages should also appear in the KDE Backports repository for installation on operating systems like Kubuntu. It will also soon reach distributions whose development model is Rolling Release.
Ya in April, the project will release KDE Gear 22.04.0, the first major update of 2022 that will introduce new features to all KDE applications.
