"It's getting closer... it's getting closer... it's getting closer..." Yes, the KDE 6 Mega-Release is close, but there are still just about 6 weeks in which things can be improved a lot. According to reports, everything is in good shape, even things related to Wayland, although they acknowledge that there are things that "break" in Another item in which they transferred part of the responsibility to third-party developers. Among the latests Moravia's compositions news this week, the number is not very high, at least from what can be counted. KDE interface improvements
- It is now possible to quickly apply a wallpaper to all screens at once (Prajna Sariputra).
- You can now set a custom speed for the mouse pointer, as well as for the touchpad (Denis Zhdanov).
- The Discover notifier no longer appears in the system tray (or even the idle zone) unless you have something to notify about, which means it can be permanently removed by telling Discover to never automatically check for updates on the Updates page from System Preferences (Yifan Zhu).
- Breeze theme buttons and text field now always have the same height, so they will never look slightly different when adjacent to each other (Akseli Lahtinen).
- Across KDE software, the way symbolic icons (i.e. those whose names end in -symbolic) are found has been improved: when a symbolic icon is not found and the system has to fall back to a more generic icon , you will now get a symbolic version of that icon if it exists (Joshua Goins).
- Plasma can now be configured to turn off the screen the moment it locks (Jakob Petsovits).
- Several utility windows and dialogs that do not appear in Task Manager no longer appear in the Overview effect either (Akseli Lahtinen).
Error correction
- Ark now preserves the extended attributes of files in archives when editing and saving their content (Kristen McWilliam).
- In Dolphin Details view, expandable folders now expand back to the correct places when sorted by size (Akseli Lahtinen).
- Fixed a file descriptor leak in Plasma that could cause it to run out of file descriptors and crash under certain circumstances (Moody Liu).
- Fixed an issue that could prevent the GlobalProtect SAML authentication method from working on OpenConnect VPNs (Rahul Rameshbabu).
- Night color can now coexist with color correction using ICC profiles, at least in the Wayland session (Xaver Hugl).
- When using the DWD weather provider in the weather widget, crazy high temperature values are no longer displayed in the forecast (Ismael Asensio).
- The weather widget tabs no longer sometimes overlap in certain circumstances (Ismael Asensio)
- Plasma's "Alternatives" popup now follows the opacity level of its main panel (Niccolò Venerandi).
- When displaying a preview of the selected task switcher style, clicking outside of the preview now closes as expected in the Plasma Wayland (Ismael Asensio) session.
In terms of quantity, a total of 262 bugs during this time.
When will this all come to KDE?
plasma 5.27.11 will arrive in February, Frameworks 114 should arrive today and Plasma 28, KDE Frameworks 6 and KDE Gear 6 will arrive on February 24.02.0.
To enjoy all this as soon as possible we have to add the repository backports of KDE, use an operating system with special repositories like Kde neon or any distribution whose development model is Rolling Release.
