KeeWeb: An open source and cross-platform password manager

KeeWeb

Today we are depending on more and more online services. Each online service that we subscribe to, allows us to set a password and in this way we must remember hundreds of passwords.

In this case, it is easy for anyone to use a single password for everything, which is not recommended at any time.

For which it should be used at least in your access to bank accounts or where you have sensitive information a different password for each one.

That is why in this article I am going to talk about Keeweb, a Linux password manager that can store all your passwords securely, either online or offline.

When we talk about Linux password managers, there are so many. Password managers like, Keepass and a few others that we've already talked about here on the blog.

Keeweb is another password manager for Linux that we will see in this article.

Keeweb is an amazing desktop application for managing your passwords and it even supports KeePass databases.

Does not require any additional servers or resources. The application can run in the browser or as a desktop application on Windows, Mac OS, and Ubuntu / Linux.

KeeWeb is an open source and cross-platform password manager with features like cloud sync, keyboard shortcuts, and plugin support. KeeWeb uses Electron, which means it runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.

When it comes to using KeeWeb, you actually have 2 options. You can use the KeeWeb web application without having to install it on your system (from your browser) and use it on the go or simply install the KeeWeb client on your system.

Features

One of the main features of KeeWeb is support for a wide variety of remote locations and cloud services.

In addition to uploading local files, you can open files from:

  • WebDAV servers
  • Google Drive
  • dropbox
  • OneDrive

This means that if you use multiple computers, you can sync password files between them, so you don't have to worry about not having all passwords available on all devices.

Also we can highlight the following:

  1. The application offers an online web version that you can try. It has almost all the features available in desktop applications.
  2. It does not require any installation and works in all modern browsers.
  3. You can open your Keeweb / Keepass databases from Dropbox and sync changes across devices automatically.
  4. The desktop application can update automatically. There are several options: update and install, show a notification, or disable the update.
  5. Multiple themes available. You can switch between dark and light theme, whichever you like the most.
