Linux 5.14-rc4 has been released fixing some Android apps and little else worth mentioning

Linux 5.14-rc4

When Microsoft announced Windows 11, it advanced a very interesting novelty: it will be compatible with Android apps. Linux has been for a long time, at least via Anbox, but it's not nearly as perfect as some of us would like. In fact, Ubuntu Web removed it momentarily to fix some bugs, and that's something Linus Torvalds did this week with the launch de Linux 5.14-rc4.

The problem was not recent. For a couple of years, some android apps were not working as expected, so it was to be expected that they did not do it in software like the aforementioned Anbox either. Torvalds has said nothing that Android support will improve on desktop Linux operating systems, but hopefully, at the very least, things will not get worse.

Linux 5.14 should be the Ubuntu 21.10 kernel

There is nothing to see here, a completely normal rc4. It's mostly a really nice, flat diffstat - so the little changes spread out - with the exception of a few blinks in selftests and the xfs fixes. Most drivers, some architecture updates, networking, plus tools and self-tests. There is nothing strange that stands out. A summary has been attached for those who want to see the details.

For everything else, everything has gone very normal and we could say that the news is that there is no news, beyond the small tweaks in drivers, architectures and others. Behind the rc3 from last week, at which point everything started to look good, it seems that the development of Linux 5.14 will be quiet.

If we look at the calendar, Linux 5.14 is almost certainly the kernel version that Ubuntu 21.10 uses Impish Indri to be released in October.
