Linux 5.15-rc5 arrived and, you guess, everything is still very normal

Linux 5.15-rc5

This week's news regarding the kernel currently in development is similar to last week, and the other, and the other ... Linus Torvalds He launched Linux 5.15-rc5, saying that everything has gone very normal. The streak is so good that the Finnish developer is ironic about how bad things have been in the last month. They did add a last minute patch for x86, but nothing alarming.

From the first Release Candidate to Linux 5.15-rc5, the only "shock" that is remembered was the second, where more work had to be done than expected, but nothing more. Other than that, right now I don't remember any Linux kernel development where the words "normal", "quiet" or "soft" so much has been written.

It looks like Linux 5.15 will arrive on October 31

“So things still seem pretty normal, and it seems like the bad streak (ha!) We had at the beginning of launch is behind us. Knock on wood. The commit stats look normal for an rc5, and the diffstat is pretty regular as well. We had more architecture updates than usual, with almost as many lines of differences in the architecture code as in the drivers. It is true that part of that "architecture" code ends up being devicetree updates, so part of it could be attributed to the controllers code, but this is not how our source tree is arranged ... "

It would be to advance events a lot, but seeing how everything is going, it is quite likely that Linux 5.15 will arrive October 31. Nor can it be ruled out that something goes wrong in these three weeks and an eighth Release Candidate is necessary, in which case we would have a stable version on November 7. Ubuntu users who want to use it will need to install on their own.
