Linux 5.7-rc6 arrives larger than it should, so there could be rc8

Linux 5.7-rc6

When development of the next version of the Linux kernel started, everything was quiet. There were versions, such as XNUMXth Release Candidate, which were smaller than they should be, but a week later everything started to change. And the trend has continued in Linux 5.7-rc6, of which Linus Torvalds says that they have had a bigger version and that he would like everything to be calmer at this time.

Torvalds, otherwise it would be news, he does not get nervous, but he does say that he is not happy with what is happening. And is that, in general, there are usually seven Release Candidates before the stable release, so Linux 5.7 should arrive within two weeks. If everything continues as before, this will not be possible and you will have to launch an eighth Release Candidate that is usually reserved for the versions that are giving problems.

Linux 5.7-rc6 size doesn't make Linus Torvalds happy

This weekend, we had an even bigger rc6, and I was really hoping we were in el period of calm. So I'm not entirely happy with this. That said, there is nothing particularly scary here, and not that this rc6 is outrageously large or out of control. I just expected less.

What is strange is that this time no explanation for the increase in size. They have introduced changes in architecture updates, drivers and a mixture of everything, as usual, but there is nothing that stands out or explains that Linux 5.7-rc6 still does not "lose weight". In any case, Torvalds hopes things will settle down soon.

Considering this week's email, we cannot know when the stable version of Linux 5.7 will arrive, or not exactly. If all calms down and seven Release Candidates are released, will arrive on may 31, but if an eighth RC is needed, it will arrive on June 7.
