Makehuman - A 3D People Creation and Modeling App

Makehuman_capture

makehuman is a 3D computer graphics application for prototyping photorealistic humanoids to be used in computer graphics. It is developed by a community of programmers, artists, and academics interested in XNUMXD character modeling.

This application is developed using per-vertex animation technology. The initial model is a standard human that can be modified through intuitive controls towards a more masculine, feminine human, changing height, width, age, etc.

For example, from the age controls (baby, adolescent, young and old), it is possible to obtain all intermediate states.

Using this technology, with a long database of morphing targets, it is visually possible to reproduce any character.

This application presents a simple graphical user interface to easily access the handling of hundreds of morphings.

About Makehuman

The focus of this application is to use controls with common parameters such as weight, age, gender, ethnicity and muscularity.

In order to make this available on all major operating systems, we started from version 1 alpha using Python with OpenGl and Qt, with a completely plugin architecture.

The program it is written entirely in python, the scripting language widely used in ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) since 1996.

Makehuman uses an intuitive and easy-to-use graphical user interface. It can be especially useful for those who study and work in health and who acts as a biomedical engineer, and other areas that need simulation capabilities that the program can offer.

Since the first version, it uses a single network, which has evolved through successive releases, incorporating feedback from the community and the results of studies and experimentation.

For complete the functions of the program can interact with Blender, import models into Blender 2.7x or to create new MakeHuman resources with Blender 2.7x.

As far as clothing is concerned, there are some basic elements that can be added to the design, while facial expressions can be modified to your liking.

As an example of how detailed the options are in the app, just for the model's mouth there are more than a dozen different poses you can adjust.

The view can also be customized and there are 2 quick access buttons to bring the face closer or zoom out for a global view.

Supported formats for exporting your work include OBJ, STL, MHX, and DAE, which means that they can be loaded into other design programs.

All in all, this application is indeed a strong competitor and can prove to be a reliable solution for anyone interested in XNUMXD modeling.

How to install MakeHuman on Ubuntu and derivatives?

If you want to install this 3D people molding application, you can do it with the help of the following repository that you have to add the system.

First They must open a terminal on their system with Ctrl + Alt + T and execute the following command in it to add the repository:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makehuman-official/makehuman-11x

Now we are going to update the list of packages with:

sudo apt-get update

Finally we can install the application with:

sudo apt-get install makehuman

For the special case of those who are users of the latest Ubuntu version, that is, the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS version.

No they will be able to use this repository, so to install this application on the system it is necessary to download the deb package from the repository, we can do this with:

wget https://launchpad.net/~makehuman-official/+archive/ubuntu/makehuman-11x/+files/makehuman-blendertools_1.1.1+20170304112533-1ppa1_all.deb

wget https://launchpad.net/~makehuman-official/+archive/ubuntu/makehuman-11x/+files/makehuman-bodyparts_1.1.1+20170304112533-1ppa1_all.deb

wget https://launchpad.net/~makehuman-official/+archive/ubuntu/makehuman-11x/+files/makehuman-clothes_1.1.1+20170304112533-1ppa1_all.deb

wget https://launchpad.net/~makehuman-official/+archive/ubuntu/makehuman-11x/+files/makehuman-docs_1.1.1+20170304112533-1ppa1_all.deb

wget https://launchpad.net/~makehuman-official/+archive/ubuntu/makehuman-11x/+files/makehuman-hair_1.1.1+20170304112533-1ppa1_all.deb

wget https://launchpad.net/~makehuman-official/+archive/ubuntu/makehuman-11x/+files/makehuman-skins_1.1.1+20170304112533-1ppa1_all.deb

wget https://launchpad.net/~makehuman-official/+archive/ubuntu/makehuman-11x/+files/makehuman-targets_1.1.1+20170304112533-1ppa1_all.deb

wget https://launchpad.net/~makehuman-official/+archive/ubuntu/makehuman-11x/+files/makehuman_1.1.1+20170304112533-1ppa1_all.deb

Finally we can install all these packages with our preferred package manager or if you prefer from the terminal you can install them with the following command:

sudo dpkg -i makehuman*.deb

It is important to remember that all deb packages must be in the same folder in order to run this command.

Finally, if you want more information, as well as plugins and help, you can visit the official website of the project.
