New additions to GNOME Circle and other highlights from this week in GNOME

GNOME receives new apps in GNOME Circle

As we have already mentioned on occasion, the This Week in GNOME initiative has been very good for the most used desktop in the Linux world. It has encouraged developers to share their work, and several of them have become part of the circle of GNOME. This week, number 112 and which went from September 1 to 8, has seen two more applications added to that circle.

The first application that has been included in the GNOME Circle in the last seven days has been Forge Sparks, and it allows you to receive Git notifications on the desktop. The second is an application called Impression, and it is an interface or frontend for creating bootable drives similar to Etcher or Raspberry Pi Imager. What you have below is the rest of new arrivals that they have published in today's article.

  • Multiplex has arrived, an application to watch torrents together. It provides a similar experience to Apple's SharePlay and Amazon's Prime Video Watch Party, except it plays torrents instead of a specific streaming service. Thanks to WebRTC, it does not require a central server to synchronize playback positions, and allows the use of a central HTTP gateway to BitTorrent if a viewer cannot use the BitTorrent protocol on their own device. It is written in Go with Adwaita and is available on Flathub.
  • PinApp 1.4 has also arrived, which is an update to the app to create and edit shortcut files in an elegant way without having to mess with .desktop files. In this version it has been translated into German and Spanish and supports snaps.

  • Gir.Core 0.5.0-preview.1 has much better support for opaque boxed records.
  • Tagger v2023.9.0, alternative to MusicBrainz Picard, has arrived with:
    • Added a new web service to download the lyrics of a song.
    • Added support for opening a folder with Tagger from the file manager.
    • Added a “Select all files” button next to the search bar.
    • Redesigned the Lyrics dialog where you can only use unsynced or synced lyrics for a file and not both.
    • Fixed an issue where album art was not read from some OPUS files.
    • Fixed an issue where Tagger would crash on Tag to Filename if the tag contained an invalid filename character.
    • Fixed an issue where Tagger would mark files as unsaved even if there were no changes.
    • Updated translations.
