As announced months ago, the next update of the LTS version of Ubuntu is now available. An update that corresponds to named Ubuntu 16.04.4. This version succeeds Ubuntu 16.04.3 and it brings with it the promised updates needed to overcome the security vulnerabilities that have recently appeared within the computing world.

The new version of Ubuntu 16.04 arrives with a little delay compared to its official calendar, however the new updates promise security for all platforms supported by Ubuntu except for the 32-bit PowerPC architecture.

Ubuntu 16.04.4 will incorporate an optimized version of kernel 4.13 as well as version 17.2.2 of MESA that will be by default in future versions of Ubuntu. That is, Ubuntu 18.04 and later will have at least this Ubuntu 16.04.4 software and not the above, which ensures the security and stability of the version to future versions of Ubuntu.

In any case, this update is only available for LTS versions. That is, if we have Ubuntu 17.10 or Ubuntu 16.10, this update will not appear in Ubuntu. The new version notification will only appear for users who have Ubuntu 16.04.3, the latest version of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

If really we have an LTS version, it is best to update to the new version and if we have normal Ubuntu, it is also ideal to try to change that version for Ubuntu LTS.

    After the update, I notice that the kernel is 4.4.0-116-generic and not version 4.13, what do I have to do to get the most recent version ...

      I only update the Kernel and graphical stack from Ltd versions 16.04.2 and 16.04.3. for any other version you install it by hand or with ukuu ， which helps you install the kernel of your choice.

      If you come from 16.04 (first version) it will not update you to kernel 4.4
      To move to kernel 4.13 that brings the latest version you have to perform these steps (enable HWE or Hardware Enablement):
