Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 arrives and introduces new image

Ubutu Touch OTA-9

Several years ago, Canonical promised us a convergence that would allow us to use the same operating system on computers, mobiles, tablets and other types of devices. He started working on it, releasing a new version of Unity, which was never officially released, and an Ubuntu Touch that looked very good, but he discontinued that project when he realized that it was not such a good idea. Luckily for Ubuntu Phone owners, the Linux community has continued with the project and Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 is now available.

To be more specific, the one who is in charge of keeping Ubuntu Touch alive is the UBports community, who have launched the OTA-9 of the mobile version of Ubuntu two months after the release. OTA-8. The new version comes with fixes such as improvements to the Nexus 5 camera, which will allow its owners to record video again. On the other hand, dark theme detection has been improved throughout the operating system, which will make everything look better when this is the chosen theme.

Other new features included in this version are:

  • Support for OpenStore V3 API in the update manager in the system settings.
  • Ability to save images using previously used compression settings.
  • Character count improvements in Messages.
  • Support for searching the web with Lilo.
  • Transitions in the stack view have been simplified.
  • A new "Paste and Go" option has been added to the browser, which will save us time by avoiding having to hit Enter or the arrow to access a website.

UBports says that update will hit all supported devices on Sunday May 12. The devices that will receive the Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 are the Fairphone 2, Nexus 5, Nexus 4, OnePlus One, BQ Aquaris M10 FHD, BQ Aquaris M10 HD, Meizu MX 4, Meizu PRO 5, BQ Aquaris E4.5, BQ Aquaris E5 and Nexus 7. So, if you have a compatible device that is using Ubuntu Touch, you can check between now and Sunday if the update has arrived.
