PDF readers for Linux

PDF viewers for Linux

At previous article We had talked about PDF documents, their validity and mentioned that Linux has a significant number of programs to manipulate them. Now we will mention some PDF readers for Linux

Every Linux desktop and distribution usually comes with a PDF reader and, little by little, browsers are incorporating support to be able to open them and in some cases work with them. They can also be opened with online tools such as Google Docs.

Some PDF readers for Linux

NightPDF

Almost everything that can be said about This application the title says it. It is a program to read PDF using dark mode.

Dark mode, which I am truly a fan of, allows you to change the traditional white background of the applications with a black or another color. Some of its advantages are:

  • Significantly reduces the power consumption of the device.
  • Limits fatigue and visual damage by reducing contrast and brightness.
  • As it adapts better to darkness, it makes reading easier and reduces the possibility of insomnia.
  • Gives the user more control over the appearance of the document.

The program comes with three predefined filters:

  1. Monochrome
  2. Sepia
  3. Red eyes.

In addition, it allows us to create our own filters by adjusting aspects such as font color, background color, darkness level, gray scale, inverse mode, sepia, brightness and tone.

Sloyek

The program It is proposed as a viewer focused on reading textbooks and research documents. Manageable entirely from keyboard shortcuts and, surprisingly for what usually happens with open source projects, with complete documentation, it has some of the following features:

  • Search and quick access to table of contents entries.
  • Quick access to any figure or bibliographic reference that appears in the document, even if it is not in the bibliography.
  • Search for bibliography titles in external databases.
  • Text highlighting using different tools.
  • Quick access to a summary of figures, references and tables.
