Plasma 5.10 comes to Kubuntu 17.04 thanks to backports

Plasma 5.10 on Kubuntu 17.04

For a long time we have been warning Kubuntu users about enabling backports, some very interesting repositories that are adapted to Kubuntu and that offer us many possibilities.

Recently this repository has introduced a new version of Plasma 5.10, Plasma 5.10.2, a version that introduces the new version of Plasma but with some bugs corrected for the better functioning of the distribution and the KDE desktop. The Kubuntu 17.04 version is not the only version that is updated with the backports, the LTS version of Kubuntu, this is, Kubuntu 16.04 also receives new improvements, improvements that many users will notice as good and in any case are intended to improve the operation of the version.

The Kubuntu backports help us keep the distribution and the Plasma version of Kubuntu 17.04 updated

The version of Plasma in Kubuntu 16.04 is not the latest version but it is has version 5.8.7, an LTS version with many bugs fixed. KDE frameworks has also been updated, with version 5.35 of this application coming. In addition, other applications that we normally use have been updated, such as Krita, KDevelop, Krusader, Digikam or Konversation.

We have been talking to you about the backports repositories, but if you already know what they are and what they mean and you want to enable them, you just have to open a terminal and write the following:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports

And then update the distribution with the following commands:

sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade

This will begin the update of our Kubuntu distribution. If we have Kubuntu 17.04 it will not have many programs or packages to update but if we have previous versions, such as Kubuntu 16.04, surely we have many programs to update and it will take a long time for the distribution to update (be careful! we will need a fast connection to do this), then we restart the computer and voila, we already have the latest version of Plasma and correction of important bugs.
