KDE users had(we) marked on the calendar today as the date of a new update of their graphical environment. A few moments ago, the project has made official the launch of plasma 5.25.5, which is the fifth maintenance update in a series that, according to some projects, has come out with more bugs than expected. In any case, this is the last update point of 5.25, and it comes with the latest fixes.
Among its novelties, as in practically any new version of Plasma, there are several for Wayland. For example, one will cause applications like GIMP to not appear duplicated in the bottom panel. Until now, opening the GNU Image Manipulation Program under Wayland caused the untouched icon to open, and that has been fixed in Plasma 5.25.
Some new features of Plasma 5.25.5
- Fixed a major regression in multi-monitor support for the Plasma Wayland session that could cause screens to show no output.
- In the Plasma Wayland session, some applications such as GIMP no longer appear in the Task Manager while running.
- Fixed a major bug related to Task Manager.
- System Monitor widgets no longer reset various settings to their default values after a system reboot.
- Kickoff no longer weirdly pre-selects items in the search results list that are not the first after having previously selected the item at that position using the cursor the last time something was searched for.
- Hovering over an item in Kickoff no longer repeatedly reselects it if the keyboard is used to select something else.
- The Breeze style reverts to respecting the size of the "Small Icons" which can be set in System Preferences.
- When using Discover in mobile/narrow mode, clicking an unrelated category in the drawer now automatically closes the drawer.
- Discover no longer freezes on startup if launched without a network connection.
- The System Preferences quick settings page no longer sometimes shows duplicate items in the “Frequently Used” section.
- Applying a cursor theme that inherits from itself no longer renders the user account unlogged.
- In Plasma Wayland session, KWin no longer crashes sometimes when dragging an attachment from Thunderbird.
plasma 5.25.5 it was announced a few moments ago, which means that your code is already available. New packages for KDE neon should appear in the next few hours, and also in the KDE Backports repository. The rest of the operating systems will arrive depending on their development model.
