Plasma 5.27.9 fixes 49 bugs while KDE continues preparing Plasma 6.0

plasma 5.27.9

A mistake of mine when counting the weeks made me think that the new point update of the KDE graphical environment had to arrive last week, but doing the math correctly today is the correct day. Six weeks after the point-eight,KDE launched us Plasma 5.27.9, which is already the ninth corrective version of the latest version of Plasma to use 5 as the first number. And there will be more, because the next big release is still four months away.

The complete list of cambios introduced amounts to 49, available in this note. What you have below is a list created from what Nate Graham says on the weekends, whose language is more entertaining and concise.

Plasma 5.27.9 Highlights

  • Fixed a case where the touchpad daemon could crash randomly.
  • When updating many Flatpak applications at the same time, Discover can no longer exhaust the set of file handlers available on the system and then crash.
  • Widgets using the standard Plasma Calendar integration will no longer sometimes display holidays from the default region, instead of the selected one.
  • It is no longer possible for your lock screen to break and display the dreaded “lock screen is broken” screen due to QML cache corruption as a result of running out of system space.
  • Fixed the actual root cause in KDE software for the “ScreenMapping configuration file key getting bigger causing Plasma to crash or crash when launching new applications” issue. And this fix has also allowed us to revert the workaround to limit the number of assignments and fix the issue of icons always being cluttered when there were a lot of things on the desktop.
  • In Wayland:
    • Fixed a rare case where KWin would crash in the Plasma Wayland session when waking up from sleep.
    • The Alt+Tab window switcher is now fully accessible through the standard Orca screen reader in the Plasma Wayland session.
  • Fixed several issues with the Discover reviews popup, including it being too slow and sometimes failing to load or submit reviews.
  • KMenuEdit correctly recreates .desktop files with exec= keys that point to executable files that have spaces or other special characters in their file paths.
  • In KRunner and KRunner-powered searches, searching for recent files is once again correctly completely case-insensitive as expected.
  • Fixed a complex issue that caused Flatpak-based GNOME applications to display text without any anti-aliasing when running in Plasma.
  • If a touchscreen calibration matrix has been configured, KWin now respects it.
  • Quick user switching from a passwordless user account now works.

Now available

Plasma 5.27.9 has been announced a few hours ago, and that means that your code is already available. Soon, if it hasn't already, it should reach KDE neon, the KDE Backports repository and then the rest of the Linux distributions, among which the first to receive it will be the pure Rolling Release.
