Plasma 6.0.1 arrives correcting the first bugs detected in the new generation of the KDE desktop

plasma 6.0.1

With already the KDE 6 Mega-Release Between us, the time has come to return to normality. What is normality in this? Well, nothing: corrective versions of Plasma, up to 5 if it is not an LTS, Frameworks every month and new applications in April-August-December, this yet to be relocated, with their respective maintenance updates the rest of the months. The first to arrive has been plasma 6.0.1, and it has done so with a long list of bugs fixed.

In that normality that we are talking about, the updates to the graphical environment arrive with a number of weeks apart that follow the Fibonacci series, so this Plasma 6.0.1 has arrived one week apart from the first version. What comes next is a list with various corrections which they have identified and corrected in the six days since then.

Some of the bugs fixed in Plasma 6.0.1

  • The default top left hot corner that activates Overview closes the effect again if we activate it a second time, while Overview is still open.
  • VLC full screen mode works again.
  • Fixed a source of brief screen freezes in the X11 session.
  • Fixed a random crash in Plasma.
  • Dragging files or folders from the desktop to another screen no longer causes them to temporarily disappear, and the fix for this issue also fixes a bug in Plasma that could be caused by dragging files or folders from the desktop to a folder visible in Dolphin.
  • Clicking the “Defaults” button on the System Preferences task switcher page no longer breaks the task switcher until it is manually chosen again.
  • When a popup panel is open, clicking something else in the panel re-activates that thing instead of simply closing the open popup panel.
  • There is once again a blue outline around the active (and now mouseover) virtual desktop in the Desktop Grid view of the Preview effect.
  • When you right-click a panel in Auto-Hide mode and select "Add Widgets...", the panel no longer closes again right after the Widget Explorer opens, which previously prevented you from actually adding widgets. a widget to the panel that way.
  • In the Tile Editor screen, you can no longer break the layout of tiles by dragging slices over other slices.
  • Clicking on the search field of the Overview effect no longer closes it.
  • Saving changes made to commands assigned to global shortcuts now works.
  • Fixed some bugs with the new Cube effect: panning zoom now goes in the expected direction, and zooming out too far no longer crops the cube.
  • When sending a file to a Bluetooth device, the notification indicating the progress of the transfer no longer displays a broken link after the transfer is complete.

Now available, soon in KDE neon

At this time, very few distributions have already decided to make the leap to Plasma 6. One of them is KDE neon, the operating system that KDE controls the most, and will receive v6.0.1 later today. Then there are other distributions, like KaOS, that were ahead of everyone and used it even when it was in beta. In those cases, the new packages should arrive soon.

The rest of us will still have to wait, and in some cases a long time. Kubuntu, which will receive version 24.04 LTS next month, will not upload until at least October. This is what happens with such important jumps as the one that occurred last week, that many developers prefer to wait until the waters calm down. The rest of the distributions will upload the new packages within a period that will depend on their update philosophy.
