PulseAudio 12 available with enhancements to AirPlay and A2DP support

PressAudio

Recently the developers in charge of PulseAudio have announced the availability of a new version of the application which reaches its PulseAudio 12 version and it has many improvements several bug fixes based on the previous version.

For those who still do not know what PulseAudio is, we can tell you briefly that this is a multiplatform sound server, capable of working over the network, distributed through the freedesktop.org project. It runs mainly on various Linux and BSD distributions.

This allows us to perform advanced operations on sound data as it passes between applications and hardware.

PulseAudio can be found on most Linux distributions, so it is usually included natively in many of them.

New version of PulseAudio

This new version It has many changes, of which we can say that PulseAudio 12 now already has AirPlay and A2DP support, plus various other improvements and new features.

Now PulseAudio you have changed your qpaeq GUI equalizer license from AGPL to LGPL and that qpaeq has been ported to Qt 5 and is compatible with glibc 2.27

The highlights of PulseAudio 12 includes better latency reports with Bluetooth A2DP profile, PulseAudio 12 as well adds support for Steelseries Arctis 7 USB stereo output headphones and Thunderbolt Dock TB16 Dell and the ability to disable input and output on MacOS.

Now using the Intel HDMI LPE driver works well with the sound system this is great news as it does not cause any more CPU issues or system crashes.

In this new release of PulseAudio we find in it a new "dereverb" option which allows us to use it as a Speex echo canceller.

We also have better Native Instruments Traktor Audio 6 detection and better digital input support for multiple USB sound cards.

In PulseAudio12 it has also been improved A / V sync, the most accurate latency reports on AirPlay devices, the ability to prioritize HDMI output over S / PDIF output, HSP support for more Bluetooth headsets.

Users upgrading their systems to the PulseAudio 12 they will also be able to choose the default Bluetooth A2DP profile instead of HSPas well as to set the "no audio" bit when using audio pass-through to compressed files.

New Features

PulseAudio 12 now makes status files unreadable for all users in system mode, no longer provides esdcompat tool if esound support is disabled, connects qpaeq component which brings compatibility latest Vala and GNU C Library 2.27 connections , avoiding dependency on GConf.

Between the other new features and fixes of this new version can be found:

  • Fixed a crash or high CPU usage issue with Intel HDMI LPE
  • module-switch-on-connect now ignores virtual devices
  • When using pass-through for compressed audio, set the "no audio" bit
  • Prioritize HDMI output over S / PDIF output
  • HSP support for more bluetooth headsets
  • Choose default A2DP Bluetooth profile instead of HSP
  • New "sink_input_properties" module argument for module-ladspa-sink
  • New module argument "use_system_clock_for_timing" for module-pipe-sink
  • module-pipe-sink can now use an existing pipe
  • Fixed digital input support for some USB sound cards
  • Fixed Native Instruments Traktor Audio 6 detection
  • New "dereverb" option for Speex echo canceller
