Mir server update to version 0.24

Just coinciding with the release of the new Ubuntu 16.10 beta (Yakkety Yak), Canonical has launched a Mir video server upgrade. This service receives in the last update the support for the new Vulkan drivers, in addition to incorporating many improvements and correcting problems detected by users.

The new features included, many of them aimed at low-level development of the environment, will especially benefit owners of devices with Ubuntu Touch system, such as mobile phones and tablets, who will receive the update through OTA-13 soon.

Today, August 15, the first beta version of the next Ubuntu 16.10 system update was launched. Development stopped several days ago and from now on, until final rollout, only fixes will be made on existing material. What we already told you, all functions that have not been included for now will be relegated to the next system update.

Between the new functionalities that await us in the next update is the tool called mirvanity, which allows to measure the latency that occurs between the client of  and a peripheral when the source is a high speed camera. It is also given OpenGL server support, although GLESv2 will remain disabled by default, new buffers and access methods through ANativeWindow events on Android Together with Mir performance measurement tools, they collect the range of news for this update.

On the other hand, some functionalities such as the screen shutdown and the TilingWindowManager component seem to have been eliminated, while others like XKBMapper have been improved to support the management of the screen controls, the EGLStreams software and a new configuration called application_not_responding_detector.
