Yesterday we start a list of programs for those who want to know the world of open source. Today we continue with some games to start using free software.
Since this is an introductory article, we are not going to get into the differences between free and open source software and we will take the license to use them as synonyms.
Some games to start using free software
In all cases these games are available for Windows, macOS and the repositories of Linux distributions.
Neverball
This game really addictive, in addition to Windows and Linux it is available for macOS. In the case of Linux, in addition to the repositories we find it in Flat hub.
The game's approach is very simple, although putting it into practice is complex enough to be entertaining, although not so complex as to be unplayable.
We control a rolling ball, we do it by varying the inclination of the floor with the mouse or keyboard to make it increase or decrease the speed or change direction. Among the difficulties there are mazes, narrow bridges, moving platforms and devices that try to make our ball fall into the void. Also, there is a time limit. By collecting coins we can obtain extra balls.
Super Tux Kart
One of my titles favorites, in addition to Windows, Linux and macOS, it is available for the Android platform. As with Neverball, the Linux version is in Flat hub.
It is a 3D racing game in which we can compete against the computer, against up to 8 players with a single computer, against other players on a local network or online. You just have to choose our character from the open source world and choose the type of competition (Time Trial), individual races or championships. To make it more difficult, the other competitors will try to knock us off the track.
If we register we can download additional circuits and characters.
FlightGear
If you always wanted to fly a plane, with this simulator of flight you can indulge yourself. This program is available for Windows, macOS and for Linux in the repositories and in format Flatpak y app image.
With FlightGear we can choose from more than 400 types of aircraft of different sizes and fly them in various scenarios to reach more than 20000 airports in the world.
