Linux-based operating systems have many software options. The downside is that, on many occasions, companies tend to forget about those of us who use, at least, a PC with Linux. The next one that seems to be forgetting about Linux is Spotify, the world's leading music streaming service. The good thing about free software is that alternatives and spotiweb is one of them.

In case you haven't found out yet, the development of Spotify for Linux will no longer proceed. It is likely to receive minor updates, but only when the news, the lines of code, share something with the Windows or Mac versions (which we have to get used to calling it "macOS"). What, in my opinion, is the best thing about Spotify is that it is available for many platforms and it also has a web version. That's where SpotiWeb comes in.

SpotiWeb, the best option for the future to listen to Spotify

Any user, paid or free, of Spotify can enjoy the service via the web. The downside is that, without any help, this version of Spotify is not integrated with the Ubuntu desktop. For it to be integrated we will have to install SpotiWeb, as a web-app that will allow us, for example, see what song is playing thanks to a native notification. On the other hand, it will not be necessary for us to open a window of our browser that, even if we use a light web browser, will always consume more resources than SpotiWeb.

The downside is that, at least at the moment, this application does not show an icon in the status bar of Ubuntu but, if we consider that Spotify has stopped offering support for Linux, it is likely that they will consider adding this option in the future.

Enjoying SpotiWeb is very simple. We just have to go to the project website, download the necessary file, unzip it and run the "SpotiWeb" file. That's all. If you have already tried it, what do you think?

Thanks to the people for providing one more option. A shame the interruption of development for linux, it works very well and does everything.

    Hello

I have made a small contribution for the development called SpotiWeb that seems to me just what I was looking for…. ad-free music, integrated with my ubuntu.

Trying to see if something could be improved I made a shortcut as follows:
https://www.linuxadictos.com/crear-accesos-directos-ubuntu.html so that the icon and the path to the binary are made from / usr / share / applications / so when doing a search by application it appears as such and you can go to the unity dock on the left side of the screen (by default) .

    I hope you serve.
